RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
& INNOVATION

Developing our
maximum potential

Rotllan Torra has set out to improve quality through research. Some of our last works that show our development and innovation are:
- Obtaining of a better cork tap for guard, red wine with a potential of 15 years.
- Research on the best cask for our Tirant. We used American, French, Russian and Eastern European oak casks.
- Statistics regarding the different methods of colour, aroma and tannin extraction (head plunging, délestage and over pumping).

- Work on the malolactic fermentation in new French oak casks.

- Adaptation of the Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir varieties to the lands of the Priorat and its special geo-climatic conditions.
- Improvements in the grading of wines with great structure and colour, using fresh egg whites.
- Work on the cask toasting and the burn process of the staves

- Research on the benefits of the micro-oxygenation in our wines.
- Research on the control and improvements of the vineyard in the growth cycle of the wine.
- Project on the vineyard and its relation to the future aromas of the wine.
- Research on the potential improvement of oxido-reduction in high quality wines.
This picture shows the bottle selection process for a new wine which will be shortly introduced to the market.

Despite its recent creation, the R&D&I (Research & Development & Innovation) department has shown a great deal of success. It is very important to us, as it allows us to evaluate our performance and improve the rest of departments. Thanks to complex software and the work of excellent professionals, the Marketing, Press and Communication, Viticulture, Vinification, Aging, Production and Logistics departments are constantly and optimally developed.
