BALANDRA 2000 The name Balandra contains the meaning of our winery; as it is the name of our house and the street where it is located in Torroja del Priorat. This winery was built in the XVIth Century by the Carthusian monks and since then it’s been used to elaborate wines for the whole region. The word Balandra comes from the word Balandrón, which is the habit that the monks used to wear. Our Balandra is a red wine for aging. Coupage: 35% selection of 30-50 year-old old Grenache 35% selection of 30-50 year-old Carignane 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine has been aged in new American oak casks for 8 months and it has rest in our bottle rack (17 degrees of constant temperature, 67-75% humidity, silence and darkness) for a minimum of 12 months. It was picked from 15th September on and it was fermented at 27 degrees. The 3 over pumpings a day we performed enabled us to get the colour, the aromas and the rest of substances which give complexity to this wine; a very well-bodied but elegant and subtle one. A wine with a lot of personality, blacker, well-bodied, ripe, developed and persistent, which leaves a nice flavour in mouth. Its is available since last February 2004. Tasting note: Intense cherry tone and complex aromas, pepper and good woods. Very silky in mouth. Very powerful.
